it’s all perspective

Reminder that Step 2 is, “We came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.” It’s a perspective, a belief, a mindset to carry you through change. Will power is not enough to sustain recovery. Intellect, although powerful, is not enough to change the way our heart feels about life. When it comes to a power greater than ourselves we’re entering the realm of emotions and spirituality. It’s an energy that we’re connecting to that we’ll never fully understand but can grow to trust and follow.
NFs song, Remember This, really brings it home when he says, “Anyone can take a life but not what you believe in!” What this means to me is once you’re locked onto a perspective it’s hard to change our minds. Each and everyone of us follows an idea that leads us through life. And it’s worth asking yourself, “What am I following?”
For us Christians, we’re following the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. The God Who Is Love (1 John 4:16). The God Who Is Truth (John 14:6). We believe in it so much we’re willing to die for it. Are you willing to die for your beliefs? You should ask yourself if you can sincerely live up to that conviction, because if you can’t it may be time to re-evaluate your beliefs.
Perspective is one of the most powerful gifts available to all humans. A tiny shift in your perspective can change the trajectory of your life. Right now, some of you believe that turning to substances or negative behaviors is what brings you peace in life. But is that really true? Because if it is, wouldn’t it be okay for our children to have it too?
Consider this quote:
"Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”
Matthew 18:3
There is a purity about children that adults forget about. It’s all inside of us. Each of us carries a little child within ourselves. But we cover it up with our intellect, our life experiences, our education, or anything that escapes the innocence of childhood. The practice of spirituality brings us back to the purity of heart like a child. We learn to let go of things that don’t matter. That no longer serve the truth that lies in each and every human being. God is real. When we can accept that truth everything changes.
