He can, Step 2 in recovery

“Coming to believe in Step Two is a process of becoming aware of a greater reality than anything we can see with our eyes.”
Project HEAL Recovery Lessons.

Step 2 is, “We came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.” Whether we believe in God or not, each of us inherently knows there is something beyond us that can bring about change. As for me, and many others, we choose to believe in the power of God’s Love to bring about life transformation, i.e., change.

Love is a verb, not a noun, and like any verb there is action behind it. Love is a source of energy that can motivate us to make different choices. We can’t do the same things and feel the same about it once we’ve experienced God’s love. And the only way to experience God’s love is to be open to it. We have to allow our minds to accept a new reality about God, ourselves, and life.

Ultimately, the entirety of our life is the sum of all our choices. And we get to choose whether God is real to us or not. Our belief doesn’t change the reality of God’s existence in the world, but our personal belief in God will change how we see everything; beginning with ourselves.

When we open our eyes to God’s love, we start to see how we can align our thoughts with His Will for us. Our change in thinking leads us to make different choices. Our choices ultimately lead to a whole new life, because we’re putting behind our past and walking toward our future.

Seek your heart about the truth of God. And you will discover as millions of others have…He is real and He wants to be a part of your life.
